As the capital of Australia and the country’s largest inland city, Canberra – or the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), as it is formally known – is located 280 kilometres (170 mi) southwest of Sydney and 660 kilometres (410 mi) northeast of Melbourne. This bustling metropolis is absolutely bursting at the seams with activities for people of all ages and with all interests. From historical sites and architectural wonders to national museums, festivals, attractions aimed at tourists, glorious natural surroundings and friendly, welcoming locals, Canberra has it all!

For history and culture buffs, Canberra is a boon. Within the city limits, you’ll find Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the National Museum, the Australian Institute of Sport and the National Gallery. For those visitors more interested in Canberra’s natural wonders, you can visit Lake Burley Griffith for some boating or fishing, the National Zoo and Cockington Green – a miniature village that can be explored via a miniature railway. The Australian National Botanic Gardens are a highlight too, with a huge selection of native plant species, rock gardens, rolling lawns dotted with eucalypts and even a lush rainforest!

As with any large city, Canberra has a wonderful selection of dining, shopping and entertainment experiences; in fact, the city has more dining options than anywhere else in the country! With an eclectic mix of café’s, restaurants, pubs and bars all over the CBD, you’ll be spoiled for choice and you’ll never tire of the options. Similarly, the range of accommodation in our country’s capital is also huge, with everything from caravan parks to five star luxury hotels and quaint, country-style bed and breakfasts; you can discover Canberra in a way that suits you!
